Renewable Natural Gas

Displacing fossil fuels with green gas

North America's leading biomethane marketing group

Anew’s RNG team is North America’s leading full-service biomethane marketing group. We partner with farmers, landfill operators, and wastewater treatment plants to generate renewable fuel and bring it to market for utilities, fleet operators, and voluntary buyers seeking cleaner energy. From generation to monetization of environmental credits, our clients gain the full benefit of fast-growing markets while avoiding execution risks.

Anew advantage

Anew is on the pulse of regulatory change and emerging opportunity within renewable fuels markets and recognized for our success in registering and marketing ultra-low carbon intensity RNG. Our length of time in the market along with our trusted relationships within the industry help us connect our vast network of producers and suppliers with both compliance and voluntary buyers.

Energy transformed

Capture and purification of the methane portion of raw biogas transforms it into a clean-burning, renewable, pipeline quality fuel that is much less carbon-intensive than fossil-derived natural gas while still able to leverage North America's expansive natural gas grid. This allows us to deliver RNG to any location currently utilizing natural gas today.

Available project types

Agriculture

Agriculture

Large agricultural operations emit methane-rich gas that can be captured, purified and upgraded to pipeline quality renewable fuel.

Landfill

Landfill

Biogas from the anaerobic digestion of waste decomposing within landfills is captured, purified, and distributed as renewable fuel.

Wastewater

Wastewater

Wastewater treatment plants are among the most efficient methods for preventing methane emissions and converting waste products into renewable energy.

RINs and LCFS credits

Anew is the largest independent marketer of cellulosic renewable identification numbers (D3 RINs) under the EPA Renewable Fuel Standard Program and a generator of low carbon fuel standard credits (LCFS) under CA's LCFS program. Our breadth allows us to offer program opportunity at a state and/or national level. As programs increase in complexity and variety, and long-awaited pathways like RINs from renewable electricity (eRINs) take effect, Anew's dedicated compliance team helps ensure maximum returns to our clients while minimizing regulatory risk.

Canada Low Carbon Fuel Programs

Anew provides LCF credit generation, aggregation, and monetization services to Canada-based clients.

Common questions

One advantage of RNG is its on-demand capability—it can be supplied 24/7, it’s base-loadable, it is not weather-dependent, and it can be stored. In addition to its use as a transportation fuel, it can produce renewable electricity and is deployable for thermal uses. RNG is also a direct path to mitigating thermal emissions now via existing delivery mechanisms (i.e. natural gas pipelines), while work progresses in building out electrification and hydrogen infrastructure.
According to the EPA, decomposing waste such as agriculture waste accounts for 26% of US methane emissions. RNG captures and repurposes methane from waste before it escapes into the atmosphere. When produced following best practices that maximize methane avoidance, RNG results in meaningful net carbon reductions, and those are the projects we are helping to bring to the market.
RNG offers not only a pathway to decarbonization, but RNG projects improve handling of waste, reduce odor around project sites, decrease nutrient loading in waterways, and increase economic opportunities. These projects take existing waste streams and make them part of the circular economy—generating renewable energy, improving air quality around project sites, creating jobs, and reducing reliance on natural gas from more carbon intensive fossil fuels.
Anew has a sizable portfolio of RNG with highly-desirable, low CI scores. A carbon intensity (CI) score is assigned following the analysis of greenhouse gas emissions for the entire pathway of a renewable fuel’s lifecycle, from feedstock collection through to conversion, upgrading, transportation and distribution into the energy pipeline. A low or an increasingly negative CI score indicates the renewable fuel achieves a greater avoidance of harmful emissions as compared with the reference fuel being replaced.
