Renewable Electricity Certificates (RECs) are representative of the environmental attributes associated with one megawatt hour of electricity, commonly generated from run-of-river hydro, wind, solar, biomass, biogas, and landfill-gas facilities.
The environmental attributes associated with RECs are based in the mitigation of life-cycle impacts from fossil fuel extraction, processing, transportation, and combustion. This includes a variety of environment benefits such as reductions in greenhouse gases, criteria air pollutants, odors, and other environment contaminants.
Our experience in quantifying and marketing GHG offsets has positioned Blue Source Canada to be active participants in trading RECs used to meet voluntary compliance targets for renewable electricity.
